Species: Corants

This species of dragon make up the vast majority of the roost's population. They possess large, triangular scales reminiscent of tree vipers. Their eyes generally match their striking scales, but may often take on the hue of one of their accent colours. Clashing pigments of the eyes are rare, and such specimens are often seen as unconventional. They generally have elliptical wings suited for bursts of speed and agility, and their four other limbs are best suited to gripping and climbing difficult cliff-face. They have 5 toes on their front feet, and 4 on their back. Twin gripping claws emerge from feathered wings to further emphasize how they've adapted to life in the stone spires. These gnarled wing additions are capable of supporting a dragon's weight in emergency situations. The shape of their tails and the amount of feathers at their tip vary widely between families. Generally, they mature at 20 years of age, at a length of 25-30 meters in length. Their heights vary widely, and they have no maximum lifespan. They continue to grow - albeit incredibly slowly - for their whole lives.
Males possess smaller scales and smoother feathers. They're built for slightly more passive flight, and often have longer flight-feathers than their gentler counterparts. They generally have two or more accent colours, and are unlimited in their natural morph patterns. Splotches of intriguing pattern and unique markings are prized, as diversity is seen as an opportunity to widen a somewhat limited gene pool. Males also possess dew claws on all legs.
Females generally are limited to shades of the same base colour, but can pass down the accent colours of her mate(s). She has a voluminous mane of feathers that meld with both her crown and her wings in a rippling display. This mane is often expressive, and will fluff up when agitated, excited or alarmed. Her dew claws are vestigial nobs upon otherwise smoothly-scaled legs. Her angular scales resume from mid-shoulder onwards, and peak into small spikes along her figure to protect her from unwanted advances.
Their society is as varied as one would expect from dwellers of a busy, magical metropolis. Some Corants find peaceful lives in singing harvests to bear fruit, while others invent new and more efficient necessities for an ever-evolving city. Those that pursue a Calling are favoured by the Cityshapers, and offered specialized dwellings in choice neighbourhoods. Those unskilled or unfavoured by virtue of their bloodline (or lack thereof) are often cast to the Spires, which host seedy neighbourhoods rife with crime and questionable narcotics beneath the cloak of the mists. Swirling haze hides the majority of these unsavory deals, dulling otherwise recognizable colours.
The highest Calling is that of the Arts. The most talented dragons hold the Cityshapers themselves as their patrons, and live in lofty luxury at a specialized pinnacle of the Roost. The public may gather in the alcoves below, divided by both societal and monetary rings of influence. Each Cityshaper Elder is said to have a favourite that they jealously guard... but is it really so bad to be a bird in such a lavishly gilded cage?
